Reclining Figure Sculpting
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Spend three days in the studio of Kaelin Palcu, a world-renowned, classically trained figurative sculptor and artist, learning to capture the reclining nude. The workshop will be an intimate experience, with a maximum of five students, plenty of one-on-one time throughout. All levels are welcome.
What you'll learn
How to read and translate a reclining pose: gesture, rhythm, and weight
Functional anatomy of the torso, pelvis, and limbs in a reclining position
Building the figure in the round, with an armature suited to the pose
Composition and negative space, and how the figure meets its support
Day by day (a rough structure for you to adjust)
Day 1, Finding the pose: Gesture studies, building the armature, and blocking in the major masses and the overall rhythm of the figure.
Day 2, Structure and anatomy: Refining the torso, pelvis, and limbs, plus a live demo. We'll move around the figure to keep it working in the round.
Day 3, Expression and resolution: Refining surface, edges, and gesture, then a closing group review.

INSTRUCTOR BIO
Kaelin Palcu is an internationally acclaimed figurative sculptor and interdisciplinary artist whose work bridges classical craftsmanship with contemporary expression. Trained in bronze casting, goldsmithing, and at renowned institutions including the Florence and Barcelona Academies of Art, Kaelin brings over fifteen years of academic experience to her teaching. She holds an MFA in Contemporary Figurative Drawing from the New York Academy of Art and has created monuments, commissioned by the Government of Canada. Her workshops emphasize a deep understanding of anatomy, structure, and gesture, encouraging students to merge technical mastery with a more intuitive, expressive response to form. Kaelin currently works between her studios in Austin and New York, teaching and exhibiting internationally.
